About Nasuulu Lodge

A Small Lodge in the Samburu Landscape

Nasuulu Lodge is a small and personal place in the heart of northern Kenya, where the landscape, wildlife, and communities shape the rhythm of daily life. With only three cottages, the lodge was created to remain intimate and welcoming, allowing guests to experience the quiet beauty of the Samburu region in a relaxed and unhurried way.

Here, life moves at a slower pace. Elephants pass through the acacia trees, birds move across the open sky, and herders guide their camels and livestock across the plains as they have done for generations. Nasuulu is not designed as a large destination, but as a place where visitors feel connected to the land and the people who call it home.

Located just a short distance from Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve, the lodge offers a peaceful base for discovering one of Kenya’s most remarkable landscapes.

Our Story

Nasuulu Lodge grew from a deep connection to this part of Kenya and the people who call it home. What began as time spent exploring the Samburu region slowly turned into the idea of creating a place where others could experience the same sense of space, quiet, and authenticity.

From the beginning the intention was never to build a large lodge. Nasuulu was always meant to remain small, personal, and welcoming. A place where guests share stories around the table, where conversations continue long after dinner, and where time in the bush feels unhurried.

With only three cottages, the lodge remains intentionally intimate so every guest feels part of something personal rather than simply passing through.

People and Culture

Northern Kenya is shaped not only by its landscapes but by the communities who have lived here for generations. Around Nasuulu Lodge you will encounter Samburu, Borana, Turkana, and Somali communities, each with their own traditions, languages, and ways of life.

Livestock herding remains central to daily life, and it is common to see camels, cattle, and goats moving slowly across the plains. Camels are especially important in this landscape. They provide milk, transport, and companionship in the dry lands of northern Kenya, and for many families they remain an essential part of everyday life.

Another beautiful expression of culture in the region is traditional beadwork. Samburu beadwork, known for its bright colours and intricate patterns, carries stories of identity, age, and community. These designs are passed from generation to generation and remain an important symbol of cultural heritage.

At Nasuulu we believe that understanding a place also means connecting with the people who live there. Guests are welcomed to experience the culture of northern Kenya in a natural and respectful way, often discovering that these encounters become some of the most memorable parts of their journey.

The Conservancy

Nasuulu Lodge sits within a local conservancy that protects wildlife while supporting the communities who share this landscape. Across northern Kenya, conservancies have become an important way of balancing conservation with local livelihoods. They create space where wildlife can move freely while also providing opportunities and income for the people who live here.

The conservancy and bed night fees go directly to the community, supporting local families and community development. At Nasuulu we also work closely with the surrounding community and contribute to initiatives such as improving water access and creating local income opportunities. Tourism here is meant to benefit both wildlife and the people who call this landscape home.

The land around Nasuulu is home to elephants, giraffes, antelope, and a remarkable variety of birdlife. Because the area remains quiet and uncrowded, wildlife encounters often feel natural and deeply personal.By staying at Nasuulu Lodge, guests become part of a shared effort to protect this landscape while supporting the communities that have cared for it for generations.
